Saga Cruises announced that the Duchess of Cornwall will serve as the godmother of the line's newly built boutique ship, Spirit of Discovery.
The official christening ceremony will take place in Dover UK on July 5. Spirit of Discovery will be the first cruise liner to be named at the port for over a decade, as well as the first to be docked at Dover Western Docks after the GBP 250 million redevelopments of the area.
In constructing Spirit of Discovery, contemporary and classic materials have been combined in order to create a luxurious environment. There will be 1,000 plus pieces of art onboard including 400 original pieces commissioned from British artists and artisans.
The independent wine producer from Kent, Hush Heath, will provide a jeroboam of sparkling wine for the christening ceremony that has been blended for Spirit of Discovery.
The Duchess of Cornwall and Saga Cruises share a common link in their support for Silver Line, a charity founded by TV presenter Dame Esther Rantzen following the death of her husband.
