The building of a pier for the docking of cruise ships is due to be incorporated into a study to be conducted for Port Paphos' marina. The proposal for marina's development was presented by Savvas Perdios, Cyprus' deputy minister of tourism, at a meeting on Tuesday, July 9, chaired by Vassiliki Anastassiadou, island's Transport Minister. The proposal was positively received by all parties involved.
The current proposal comes after strong objections that voiced in June by the Cyprus-based Unesco office over plans to build the pier near the castle in Paphos Harbor, where "irreversible destruction could be caused to the Unesco world heritage site that covers much of this part of Paphos."
The organization demanded that a heritage impact study had to be first be undertaken before green lights are given.
