Plates and furniture have been used as weapons in a mass brawl that broke on a P&O Cruises ship. The alleged fight took place as Britannia returned to Southampton UK from a 7-day Norwegian Fjords cruise.
The accident was sparked by a cruiser taking offense at another vacationer dressed as a clown. The British cruise line confirmed the accident. Hampshire Police is currently investigating.
An emergency Tannoy has been made in the early hours of Friday, July 26, for security staff to attend The Epicurean (specialty restaurant on deck 16 forward-portside). Some guests were so frightened that they had to hide, as family groups fought. The people behind the violence were confined to a stateroom for the last day of the voyage.
The violence occurred following a black-tie evening and an afternoon of partying on deck when large alcohol amounts were consumed. Another traveler appeared dressed as a clown which upset one of the party because they had specifically booked a "cruise with no fancy dress."
P&O Cruises announced that following the incident on MV Britannia Thursday evening, they could confirm that all guests had disembarked and the matter was "in the hands of the local police." According to Hampshire Police, a number of people had been assaulted.
The accident occurred during the early hours of July 26 while Britannia was en route to Southampton UK from Bergen.
