Ferries serving Dalma Island (Abu Dhabi) depart from a new homeport from Tuesday, August 20, in anticipation of increasing tourist numbers. Marsa Jebel Al Dhanna replaced Mugharag Port as the only means to travel to the island on emirate’s public ferries.
The new site in Al Dhafra region is much more suited to tourism because only light vehicles are allowed in, while Mugharag Port is a commercial centre with heavy lorries so large vehicles are a frequent sight on its quays.
Marsa Jebel Al Dhanna is around 260 km west of Abu Dhabi in Al Dhafra region and Dalma Island is around 40 km off the coast. The new location is familiar to some, as Sir Bani Yas Island ferry leaves from a berth nearby.
The Integrated Transport Centre of Abu Dhabi said the move was to ensure the smoother experience for visitors and was expected to boost maritime services in Al Dhafra region.
