A Royal Caribbean liner operating from homeport Baltimore MD experienced mechanical issues and had to sail back to homeport, drop off all passengers and officially cancel the voyage on Saturday, August 31.
The vessel Grandeur of the Seas departed on Saturday. However, hours later she could again be seen docked in Covington. According to the RCI spokeswoman Melissa Charbonneau, Grandeur OTS had experienced a technical issue with her propulsion system and had been forced to discontinue the voyage and return to Baltimore for necessary repairs. The company apologized for the interruption in their guests' travel plans.
No information has been provided on how many passengers were onboard, how far out to sea the vessel was at the time of the accident or how long the repairs might take. Grandeur OTS was on a 5-day roundtrip Bermuda cruise (planned overnight stay in King's Wharf).
