The first expedition cruise ship in the Infinity class series of SunStone was officially named Greg Mortimer at China Merchants Heavy Industry's Haimen Shipyard (Jiangsu China) on Friday, September 6.
The ships have been designed and developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions together with the owner, Aurora Expeditions. Following the delivery, Greg Mortimer set sail for her first Antarctica adventure.
In the combined delivery and naming ceremony, the ship received her name after the founder of Aurora Expeditions.
Greg Mortimer is the first, of potentially 10, polar expedition cruise ships for the SunStone Ships to be constructed at CMHI yard. It is the first expedition cruise ship to incorporate the patented X-BOW innovation of Ulstein, a bow hull design that leads to a more comfortable journey. Less resistance in waves means less fuel is needed, hence a lower environmental footprint.
