Following years of debate over where the port of Sydney might have its 3rd cruise ship terminal, the Government of NSW announced it wants to work with cruise industry on a potential site in Port Botany.
The Government of the state launched the first phase of a "detailed business case" to look into the option for the additional cruise terminal at Molineux Point or Yarra Bay. This followed the Federal Government's last-year decision to reject plans for cruise liners to dock alongside naval ships at Garden Island, Sydney Harbour.
A 3rd terminal is hoped to increase the cruise liners' capacity in the city, with Overseas Passenger Terminal in Circular Quay and White Bay hard trying to handle the peak season traffic.
According to the NSW Government, the new cruise shipping project will assess the economic and social benefits, costs, and impact on transportation, traffic, environment.
