The second of the three new expedition cruise ships of Hapag-Lloyd - Hanseatic inspiration, will be named on October 11, 2019, by Laura Dekker with an exceptional ceremony in expedition-style at Uberseebrucke (Port Hamburg).
In 2010-2012, Laura Dekker successfully completed a full world circumnavigation (518-day voyage) on a 40-foot ketch (2-masted sailboat). The onboard christening ceremony will be hosted by Ranga Yogeshwar - 1959-born (in Luxembourg City) physicist and natural science journalist.
Hapag-Lloyd's new expedition vessel design is represented by 3 structurally identical sisterships, each with max passenger capacity 230 (plus 170 crew). The EUR 435 million shipbuilding project was financed by the parent company TUI Group.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has organized a special naming ceremony for HANSEATIC inspiration. The invited guests will watch the event live from vessel's own fleet of Zodiac boats. Launches will be available for those who find the fast-speed rubber boats not too adventurous for the occasion.
Inspiration boasts the highest ice class for a passenger ship (PC6) and is fitted with environmental technologies and latest marine equipment - such as an SCR catalytic converter and cold ironing. From July 2020, company's entire expedition fleet will use VLSFO (Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil) on all itinerary routes.
On October 14, Ulf Wolter (Hanseatic inspiration's Master / Captain) starts the 15-day inaugural cruise in Antwerp.
