The Holland America cruise ship ms Veendam temporarily lost power and began drifting off George Town (Grand Cayman Island) on Saturday, November 9, according to Will Jacobs - Port Authority operations manager.
Jacobs said that a tugboat was enlisted to push the cruise ship back into position. He added the vessel didn't hit the coral reef as its was drifting in 60 ft deep waters while having draft of 28 ft.
At the time of the accident, ms Veendam was sailing on a 14-day Western-Eastern Caribbean cruise (itinerary Nov 6-20) roundtrip from homeport Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida).
