A fundraiser to support Venice flooding was organized by Port Authorities. President of Port Venice, Pino Musolino, sent a letter to all cruise companies visiting Venice, asking for help and support.
The letter signed by Pino Musolino reads:
"It would be a message of great importance to you and to the entire cruise sector if you decide to raise funds to support our stricken city and its inhabitants. It would be a tangible sign of your ties to Venice and a concrete sign that it is possible to build a relationship of trust between the cruise industry and the Venetian community.”
First to respond was the Italian passenger shipping company Costa Cruises (part of Carnival Corporation) announcing a EUR 100,000 donation to Venice Municipality for urgent interventions. Venice saw her second-worst flooding on record on November 12 when water levels reached over 6 feet (1.87 m) above sea level, the highest flooding in fifty years.
