A cruise ship carrying at least 80 travelers ran aground in the early hours of Monday morning, November 25, off Phi Phi Island (Thailand), thus damaging the hull and causing the vessel to take on water.
MS La Belle Des Oceans (fka Silver Discoverer) was transporting cruise passengers out of Koh Lanta back to Phuket during low tide. The ship struck and became stuck on the rock pile. No injuries have been reported.
Multiple reports indicate that local naval officials had been alerted and dispatched a patrol ship, HTMS Sriracha, to help free as well as escort the boat to Phuket port. The captain of the ship was to be questioned about why La Belle Des Oceans ran aground.
La Belle Des Oceans was scheduled to depart from Singapore in October 2019 for a voyage to Thailand and Malaysia prior to heading to India and reaching Greece by March 2020, according to a trade publication.
