SeaDream Yacht Club and Damen decided not to proceed with the construction of the new (March 2018 ordered) SeaDream Innovation - initially planned for launch in 2021. SeaDream announced that all booked customers would be contacted and issued refunds in the coming days.
SeaDream’s executive VP Andreas Brynestad, said in a written statement that the response from their past guests and the market, in general, had been overwhelming, despite the cruise ship not being scheduled for delivery for almost 2 years. He added that "since the ship will not be delivered, all booked guests will be contacted and issued full refunds in the coming days.”
SeaDream also revealed it was "actively pursuing other newbuild opportunities," and that it hoped to announce a new ship in 2020. SeaDream’s owner and chairman, Atle Brynestad, noted that the company had been debt-free for a number of years, and as a result, had the equity needed to expand the fleet.
Additionally, the renovation of the suites on SeaDream’s existing mega-yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II, would continue as planned, starting with SeaDream II in 2020.
Both Damen and SeaDream said that they remained "open to potential future projects and collaboration."
