On Thursday, December 5, Costa Smeralda was delivered to Costa Cruises from Meyer Turku. The newbuild sailed towards Barcelona on Friday afternoon, December 6. Smeralda is one of the most innovative ships ever built at the shipyard. When she was handed over during an official ceremony at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Costa Smeralda became the fourth new vessel of Carnival Corporation for 2019 as well as its 2nd LNG-powered ship.
Costa Smeralda is scheduled to visit Marseille, France on December 19 and Savona, Italy on December 20, as part of 3 presentations with travel agents. On December 21, 2019, the new ship will depart Savona for her maiden voyage, a week-long sailing calling on Marseille, Barcelona, Palma, Civitavecchia, and La Spezia.
