More than 80,000 travellers on 14 cruise ships will disembark on Pier Maua during the week of Christmas to attend the New Year’s Eve party in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
A total of 20,000 cruisers are expected only on December 31st to see the fireworks show in Copacabana, Rio's South Zone. During cruising season 2019-2020 (that started in October and runs until April 2020), a total of 112 dockings of 37 different vessels are expected. The 2019-2020 season commenced on October 20 with World Explorer.
Gomes said that was a growing season because “foreign shipowners turn their gaze to the Brazilian coast as a destination spot. Therefore, we see a very significant increase,” in the number of travellers arriving at the port city.
Pier Maua operations manager reported that it was important since it introduced BRL 500 million (US$ 122 million) in Rio’s economy just in the 6-month season.
