A passenger suffering "severe abdominal issues" was taken off Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas late Saturday night, December 28, by a Coast Guard helicopter, the Coast Guard personnel revealed.
The cruise ship was around 17 miles offshore of Little Egg Inlet when the 70-year-old man "needed a higher level of medical care" than what was available on the cruise ship, Coast Guard officials announced in a news release. The passenger was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City for treatment.
The name of the passenger and his condition were not released.
At the time of the accident, the ship was on an 8-day, round-trip Bahamas Holiday cruise which departed New York, Cape Liberty Bayonne NJ-NYC on December 28.
