One of the world's newest and largest passenger ships crashed into a pier upon docking in Sicily today, December 30 - just a month into the vessel's maiden season. MSC Grandiosa pranged against the wall as she arrived in Palermo, Italy this morning. The accident left the stern of the ship damaged and part of the pier was destroyed. The collision was due to high winds in the harbour.
The Grandiosa ship is on a 7-day roundtrip Mediterranean cruise which had to depart Palermo today, and call at Valletta, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, and Civitavecchia-Rome.
