Panasonic teamed up with the Princess Cruises company in order to deliver 4K projectors for the cruise ships that are expected to make onboard theater entertainment more immersive. It is a step that shows what interactive entertainment will be like in the near future.
At a press event at CES 2020 tech trade show in Las Vegas (Nevada), Panasonic said it was helping "beef up the entertainment for Generation Z and millennial travelers who have high expectations for entertainment, thanks to their tech-laden homes."
Sky Princess is the first cruise liner in a fleet of over 100 to be outfitted with Panasonic’s PT-RQ50KU 3-Chip DLP Solid Shine Laser Projector that will be used for 5-Skies, the new production show in the fleet of Princess Cruises that blends projected imagery and live actors.
The 5-Skies production show debuted on Sky Princess in December and will be featured on Enchanted Princess this year.
The Panasonic PT-RQ50KU laser projector combines native 4K resolution at 50,000 lumens of brightness with separate red and blue Solid Shine laser-phosphor technology, while typical projectors are around 5,000 lumens.
