Celebrity Cruises named Reshma Saujani as the godmother of Celebrity Apex, the second vessel in the brand’s Edge Series. Saujani is the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit organization Girls Who Code. She will name the newbuild at an official naming ceremony in Port Southampton on March 30, 2020.
Girls Who Code aims at closing the gender gap in technology as well as at providing education focused on computing skills for young ladies. Through their after-school Clubs, the College Loops program, and the 7-week Summer Immersion Program, Girls Who Code has reached 185,000 girls to date via its programs.
Celebrity Cruises will also collaborate with the organization to offer educational coding programs as part of the line’s Camp at Sea S.T.E.M. experiences on Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, along with related experiential products and offerings.
Celebrity Apex is scheduled to begin her inaugural season in April with a mini-season of 5 sailings to Northern Europe and then spend the summer sailing 7- to 12-night itineraries in the Mediterranean. In November, the ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale FL for a winter season of week-long Caribbean voyages.
