On Friday night, February 28, Emerald Princess came into Port Los Angeles hours before the scheduled arrival. According to the LA Fire Department, it had received a call for help just before 8 pm, deploying 4 ambulances to Berth 93.
When paramedics arrived, a couple of people had suffered unknown injuries on the liner and 2 others were suffering from unknown illnesses. The 4 patients were taken to nearby hospitals with no lights or sirens.
Emerald Princess does have doctors and medical staff onboard. She was scheduled to return on Saturday from a 28-day cruise to the South Pacific and Hawaii.
The Port of Los Angeles police said the remaining passengers were being kept on the cruise ship overnight because they could not get off without going through customs, which would not be staffed until the morning.
