A crew has died on Celebrity Infinity, and two crew have been medevaced (airlifted) from Oasis of the Seas. Both cruise liners are passenger-free after all major cruise lines suspended shipping operations due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Staff and crew, however, remained on the ships.
The spokesperson for RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (parent company of Celebrity Cruises and RCI-Royal Caribbean International) Jonathon Fishman officially confirmed the fatality on Celebrity Infinity. RCCL previously said passengers on the Infinity ship exhibited flu-like symptoms, but Celebrity has not yet confirmed whether the illnesses were linked to COVID-19. Fishman also revealed two crew had been evacuated from Oasis OTS "for medical reasons." All passengers on both ships had disembarked.
Celebrity Infinity is currently positioned off western Florida, while Oasis OTS is currently navigating off Broward County (southeastern Florida) en-route to Port Everglades.
The sister-brands Celebrity and RCI have suspended their global fleets operations until May 11 as the originally planned suspension period was extended by a month.
