A 39-year-old Ukrainian woman on Regal Princess jumped overboard Sunday morning, May 10, and did not survive, Princess Cruises' spokesperson Negin Kamali revealed.
Her body was recovered from the water in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where the cruise ship has been docked since Saturday, May 9, to repatriate crew members.
The woman worked for the cruise company as a waiter.
Regal Princess sailed to Rotterdam as part of the line's efforts to finally repatriate crew following the suspension of cruising 2 months ago.
Princess Cruises had arranged for air transportation for the Ukrainian crew to fly from Amsterdam to Kiev (Kyiv, Ukraine). Nearly 150 Ukrainian crew members had been flown back to Ukraine via Ukrainian International Airlines.
The woman was one of more than a hundred crew not permitted to fly back home to Ukraine.
