A Filipino male crew has been found dead in his cabin by fellow teammates on AIDAblu early Monday morning, May 18. The cruise ship is currently docked in Port Hamburg Germany. The sad news was announced by the ship's Master (Captain Tonnies Kohrs) via the PA/public address system.
The deceased man (Kennex Mingas Bundaon) was from Guihulngan City (Negros Oriental Province, The Philippines) and worked in the Galley department in the AIDA Cruises fleet. The company confirmed that the death was not related to COVID.
No other details have been revealed yet. A commemoration has been organized onboard with a Filipino priest leading the ceremony.
Sadly, but this is the 5th suicide case this month. Cruise ship crew deaths in May were reported also on the liners (CruiseMinus pages in ship links) Mariner of the Seas (Chinese, dining room attendant), Jewel of the Seas (Polish, electrician, jumped overboard in Greece's Northern Aegean Sea), Regal Princess (Ukrainian, waitress, jumped overboard in Port Rotterdam Holland) and Carnival Breeze (assistant excursion manager, suicide during the Transatlantic repatriation voyage from the USA to Europe).
