The top-luxury cruise brand Silversea took delivery of its first-ever destination-specific newbuild vessel - Silver Origin, from Shipyard De Hoop BV (Lobith, Holland).
The special ceremony was held on June 3, marking the first in-person cruise ship delivery since the COVID pandemic prompted a lockdown.
The delivery was attended by Silversea's top executives Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio (Chairman), Roberto Martinoli ( President & CEO), Damien O'Connor (Hotel Operations), Barbara Muckermann (Chief Marketing Officer), shipyard representatives. The delivery was held in Port Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The 100-passenger newbuild Silver Origin is one of the most beautiful and modern-designed superyachts, and specifically designed for cruising in Ecuador's Galapagos Islands. Ship's dynamic positioning system allows it to maintain a stable position automatically and without anchors in order to protect the sea bed. The freshwater purification systems enable the vessel to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bottles. The wastewater treatment plant exceeds the industry's strictest regulations.
Ship's technological innovations complement Silversea's efforts to make a positive impact on the region's economic and natural environment. The company also contributes to the Floreana Island Ecological Restoration Project - ecosystem restoration project aimed to remove invasive species thus protecting Floreana Island's endangered flora and fauna.
