A fire has erupted on the cargo deck of Cruise Bonaria ferry (GRIMALDI LINES-owned ship) upon arrival at homeport Olbia (Sardinia Island, Italy) from Livorno (Florence-Pisa, Italy) Thursday evening, June 18.
The refrigerator truck of the vessel is thought to have gone on fire due to a shortcut. Thick black smoke billowed from the cargo deck area to the upper decks and high in the air.
Cruise Bonaria continued her approach. Firefighting and CG emergency teams boarded the ferry and took part in the firefighting, together with the crew. The fire has been extinguished and the ferry with nearly 150 passengers has been safely berthed at around 18:30 UTC on June 18. No injures or damages have been reported.
As of June 21, Cruise Bonaria remains berthed at Port Olbia.
