A third ship in the CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's fleet is now headed for the scrappers. The 2056-passenger Carnival Imagination filed a cruise plan for Aliaga, Turkey, the spot of a major ship scrapping operation that became the final resting place for notable vessels like Princess Cruises‘ Pacific Princess - the “Love Boat.”
On Wednesday, August 26, the Carnival Imagination ship docked at Curacao Island prior to her long journey to Aliaga. Curacao was the starting for two other Carnival ships - Fantasy and Inspiration - which departed for the scrapyards of Aliaga last month.
Built back in 1995, Carnival Imagination is among the oldest ships in the fleet. In recent years, she has sailed to Mexico from Long Beach CA and was popular with cruisers in California and other western states. However, Carnival said she would not return to service when cruising resumes.
In late July Carnival said both Carnival Imagination and a second liner, Carnival Fascination, would enter a long-term layup.
Carnival Fascination is currently docked in Cadiz, Spain.
