Costa Cruises' flagship powered by the most advanced propulsion technology currently used to reduce emissions - LNG, Costa Smeralda, is the 3rd ship of the company to return to service, after Costa Deliziosa and Costa Diadema.
The week-long itinerary of Smeralda has 5 departures from Savona, Italy, from October 10 through November 7, 2020, dedicated to the rediscovery of the best of the country with ports of call at La Spezia, Cagliari, Naples, Messina, and Rome (Civitavecchia).
For the liner, this is a real homecoming following the COVID emergency pause, as Savona has been her homeport since December 21, 2019, when she made her first voyage after leaving the Meyer shipyard in Turku where she was constructed.
Beginning with her first call at La Spezia, the destinations on Smeralda's itinerary can be visited only via joining the protected trips organized by the company for small groups on sanitized means of transport, as well as subject to temperature measurement prior to leaving and rejoining the cruise ship.
