The P&O ship Azura, currently docked on Tyne River, is expected to remain in the North East for months.
Operated by P&O Cruises UK, the liner has been berthed at Newcastle upon Tyne (England) since January 15, 2021, after arriving from Southampton UK.
Azura was one of many P&O UK ships that returned to the United Kingdom when the pandemic stopped operations and has been undergoing maintenance work while based at the North Shields port.
During her time on the River Tyne, the vessel has attracted attention from people enjoying a walk along the South Shields riverside. P&O confirmed that Azura looks set to remain at the Port of Tyne until the 2021 summer.
According to P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow, they were delighted that the Government had acknowledged that UK domestic cruise holidays could begin from May 17.
“Whilst it will take some weeks after this date for us to restart our operations we are very much looking forward to welcoming guests on board this summer for our series of Ultimate Escape staycations - UK coastal cruises."
