DCL-Disney Cruise Line released a video giving a behind-the-scenes look at how the company designed its upcoming Disney Wish ship with enchantment and characters in mind.
This video is the first in the ‘Designing the Disney Wish’ series, giving fans a peek behind the curtain at the upcoming newbuild and why they make the design choices they do.
DCL's Disney Wish will boast a hull design with an “intricate scrollwork pattern reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s” and Captain Minnie Mouse, while the boat's stern will feature the sculpture of Rapunzel.
For the Grand Hall, the entrance to passengers when they board will again be focused on the enchantment motif. The ship's interior will be designed using three classic Disney themes - fairytale castles (including the Atrium, with a grand staircase and sculpture of Cinderella), forests and animals, and the spirit of the sea.
Disney Wish is the first of 3 upcoming DCL ships built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
The new Disney ship Wish was originally scheduled for launch in 2021-Q4, inauguration by Christmas 2021 and to start regular operations in January 2022. However, due to COVID-related issues (shipbuilding yard closures), the vessel's introduction was postponed for 2022-Q2 (summer).
The other vessels from this series (sisterships) are yet to be named, with rescheduled/postponed launches and deliveries in 2024 and 2025.
More details about MS Disney Wish are expected to be revealed on April 29, 2021.
