NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line revealed more details on its newest ship (scheduled for delivery by Fincantieri in summer 2022) Norwegian Prima. NCL Prima will be the first of a total of six Prima Class (fka Leonardo Class) liners with GT tonnage 142500 and passenger capacity 3215.
Formerly popular as the Leonardo Project, the new ship class is NCL’s first in 10 years. The company is expected to introduce a new (Prima Class) vessel every year through 2027.
Norwegian Prima will cruise in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Iceland, Northern Europe. Bookings opened on May 12, 2021.
The guest-first focus includes 4 pillars, including elevated service levels, more wide-open spaces indoor and out, thoughtful design in function and ease, a variety of exceptional experiences.
Norwegian Prima boasts 13 suite categories, large 3-bedroom suites, and the brand’s biggest-ever inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms, which feature larger bathrooms and showers.
The Waterfront found on other vessels has been reimagined by doubling the space on the 44,000-square-foot Ocean Boulevard (a walk-around complex with multiple spaces). Located on deck 8, Ocean Boulevard wraps around the whole deck and includes an open-air marketplace named Indulge Food Hall, which features a variety of eateries and a mix of indoor/outdoor seating.
The food hall offers 11 venues such as Coco’s (artisan sweet treats), Q Texas Smokehouse (American comfort food & barbecue), Starbucks, Seaside Rotisserie (rotisserie-cooked dishes), Nudls (noodle dishes from around the world, Italian/Thai cuisines), Tamara (classic Indian dishes & vegetarian options).
Culinary choices also include The Latin Quarter (classic Latin food with a twist), Tapas Food Truck (Spanish-inspired street food), Garden Kitchen (customized salads with over 2 dozen ingredients to choose from), Just Desserts (classic dessert items like pies and cakes), Just Ice Cream.
3 restaurants are also found on Ocean Boulevard, with both indoor/outdoor seating: Onda By Scarpetta (modern Italian cuisine), Los Lobos (premium Mexican restaurant), The Local Bar & Grill (with beach club atmosphere serving classic American cuisine and cocktails). Ocean Boulevard also has new features including The Concourse outdoor sculpture garden featuring an art wall designed by David Harber and 6 installations by Alexander Krivosheiw (the 7 sculptures are valued at $2+ million).
Infinity Beach has 2 infinity pools at the edge of the deck and 2 glass bridges.
The Haven by Norwegian on Norwegian Prima spans 8 decks of suites and public areas in the aft of the liner. The luxury ship-within-a-ship, keycard-access area has 107 Haven suites close to private elevators exclusively for Haven passengers. The elevators rise into The Haven public areas on decks 16 & 17. For the first time, every public area offers sea and destination views. The Haven Sundeck boasts an infinity pool overlooking the wake of the ship and an outdoor spa featuring a glass-walled sauna and cold room. The Haven also has a restaurant and a lounge & bar.
The newbuild will operate a series of inaugural voyages and, from August 17 through September 13, 2022, will sail on 10-day cruises from Amsterdam Netherlands and Copenhagen Denmark in the Baltic Sea (Northern Europe and Norwegian Fjords).
Starting December 2022, NCL Prima will be homeported in Port Canaveral Florida USA to operate 5-7-9-day roundtrips to Western Caribbean ports through March 2023. The ship will be homeported in NYC New York (through May 2023) for 5-7-day Bermuda cruises. Follows a European deployment (through September 7, 2023) for 10-11-day Norway & Iceland itineraries leaving out of Reykjavik Iceland and Southampton England.
NCL Prima ship will sail back to the USA for Bermuda and Caribbean cruises before visiting Galveston TX for the first time ever for the NCL company. From November 19 through December 3, 2023, Norwegian Prima will sail from PortMiami offering three 7-day Western Caribbean voyages to Harvest Caye Belize, Cozumel Mexico and Roatan Island Honduras.
