CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's ship Carnival Sensation arrived in Mobile Alabama Friday morning, May 14, for the first time, with spectators lining up on the waterfront at Cooper Riverside Park to greet the boat.
Sensation's Captain Giuseppe Strano said he was sure he spoke for everyone onboard when he said it had been quite emotional seeing all the people who had come out to welcome them. He added Mobile certainly missed cruising, and they missed their guests, too - it was great to see how excited their guests were for the return of cruising.
"Fun Ship" fans had an opportunity to get a first-hand look at what promised to be an exciting new option from Mobile AL as Carnival Sensation offers a variety of balcony cabins and features like a Cherry on Top sweet shop and Bonsai Sushi Express.
After docking, the ship's crew was COVID-vaccinated in the terminal by USA Health representatives.
The crew enjoyed a special treat, gumbo from the legendary seafood restaurant of Mobile, Wintzell’s Oyster House, delivered to the cruise ship.
CCL's President Christine Duffy said they appreciated the support of Mobile officials in the efforts to vaccinate the Carnival Sensation crew.
"We value the partnership of the port and city of Mobile and look forward to resuming sailing from the Alabama Cruise Terminal as soon as we can.”
