A passenger on the MSC Cruises ship MSC Grandiosa was medically evacuated on Friday, June 26, by the Italian Coast Guard (CG) after suffering from internal bleeding.
The Operations Room of the Port Authority in Trapani (Sicily Italy) received a call at 1:30 AM by the ship's Captain requesting urgent medical disembarkation and transfer of a female guest suffering from severe abdominal pains.
The doctor on duty at the IRMC (International Radio Medical Center) was immediately contacted and deemed it necessary to transfer the patient for medical treatment in a land-based hospital.
A patrol boat was imediately dispatched and intersected the ship approx 18 mi (30 km) south of Port Marsala (western Sicily). The woman was transferred to the rescue boat and accompanied to Paolo Borsellino hospital.
