Viking Cruises celebrated on June 28 the latest milestone in the line's return to service as passengers were welcomed onboard in Iceland.
Over the weekend, vacationers boarded Viking Ocean's ship Viking Sky in Reykjavík (Iceland's capital and principal seaport), where the vessel is homeported during summer 2021 - along with the sistership Viking Jupiter.
Both boats sail Viking's new itinerary "Iceland’s Natural Beauty" until early-September. Offered as part of the Welcome Back collection of the line, exclusively available for vaccinated passengers, the trip currently underway is the first of a total of 19 sailings roundtrip from Reykjavík.
The 8-day circumnavigation of Iceland visits the coastal towns of Akureyri, Seydisfjordur, Heimaey Island, among others, before returning to Reykjavík.
Viking Cruises restarted operations in May 2021 and has been cruising in England with British passengers since May 22.
~100% of passengers on these sailings provided high ratings. On June 15, the cruise company welcomed American passengers back onboard in Bermuda.
In July, Viking Cruises will also launch Welcome Back Mediterranean voyages with 3 ocean-going ships homeported in Valletta Malta. The company will restart European river operations with select itineraries in France, Portugal, and along the Rhine River.
