Construction on P&O UK’s newest ship Arvia is well underway at Meyer Werft shipyard in Warnemunde-Rostock (Germany).
Like the sistership Iona, Arvia is LNG-powered (liquified natural gas).
The floating engine room unit (FERU) has been installed in the shed at Meyer Werft. The vital section of the new ship houses the main engines and LNG tanks.
Manufactured by Neptun Werft (sister company of Meyer Werft), the FERU is 140 m long (~16 London AEC Routemaster buses parked end-to-end), 42 m wide (5 Routemasters) and weighs ~12,000 tons (~1633 Routemasters).
Currently, the FERU is in the hall, the building enters a new phase as the prefabricated blocks are mounted on the engine room section.
