The high-speed catamaran CAT Ferry will resume Canada--USA service between Yarmouth NS (Nova Scotia) and Bar Harbor (Maine) in Spring 2022. The crossing time is 3,5 hours.
The Bay Ferries' ship hasn't sailed since Summer 2018. Construction on the Bar Harbor ferry terminal canceled service in 2019, while the COVID crisis shuttered the operations in 2020-2021.
Despite stating that it remained unclear when the international border would be open for travel, the CAT Ferry will restart this service next spring.
Restarting this Canada-USA ferry route is expected to require substantial upfront investments which are not possible to cover in a short season.
A contract between Bay Ferries (shipowner) and Nova Scotia for the service runs through the operating season of 2025.
Bay Ferries Ltd is a ferry company operating in eastern Canada, with headquarters in Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island, Canada). Bay Ferries is a subsidiary of NFL (Northumberland Ferries Ltd) and a sister company to the defunct Bay Ferries Great Lakes Ltd.
