A small ferryboat carrying 100+ people sank on Friday, August 27, after colliding with cargo ships and a speedboat, leaving at least 21 dead and dozens missing in eastern Bangladesh.
The accident took place at Bijoynagar area (Brahmanbaria district) Friday evening.
By late Friday, rescuers recovered 21 bodies, while survivors said ~100 people were onboard during the accident. Local news reported, quoting the top government administrator of the area, Hayat-Ud-Dola, that ~50 people were missing.
According to witnesses, 2 cargo ships hit the boat that sank very fast after colliding with another small boat.
Such accidents often happen in the country, a delta nation crisscrossed by 230+ rivers, because of unskilled driving and lax enforcement of laws.
The area is ~80 km / 50 mi east of the Bangladesh capital city Dhaka.
