A fire broke out around 11:15 PM (Paris time/UTC 1:15 AM), on Saturday, August 28, aboard RCI-Royal Caribbean's ship Wonder of the Seas and significant resources were mobilized to overcome it.
The accident happened in an electrical cabinet, located in a 5 m2 (54 ft2) sized service room.
Significant firefighting resources were dispatched to the vessel in order to prevent the spread of flames, with 48 firefighters, including a team specializing in interventions on ships.
The fire was extinguished and surveillance was put in place overnight.
Wonder OTS is the 14th vessel to be delivered to Royal Caribbean by the French shipbuilding company Chantiers de l'Atlantique (St Nazaire France), and RCI fleet's 28th liner.
With delivery planned for 2022-Q1, Wonder OTS' Maiden Voyage is currently scheduled for March 26, 2022 (5-day itinerary roundtrip from Shanghai China to Fukuoka-Hakata and Kumamoto-Yatsushiro. The liner could be also seasonally deployed in the Southern Pacific Ocean (Australia and New Zealand), with relocation voyages (RepositionCruises.com) via Singapore.
