Costa Rica is ready to welcome cruise ships carrying vaccinated crew members and passengers.
As of September 1, the country will receive liners in which 100% of the crew have been vaccinated against COVID and at least 95% of guests of vaccination age have been fully vaccinated.
The first post-COVID-crisis ship will dock in Golfito. Windstar's boat Star Breeze (max passenger capacity 312) is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, September 2.
The Tourism Board said 9 lines had incorporated Costa Rica into their 2021-2022 cruise itineraries, including Windstar, Lindblad Expeditions, Sea Cloud, Carnival Pride, Celebrity Millennium, Crown Princess, Diamond Princess, Seabourn Quest, Seven Seas Mariner.
5 of those liners will arrive in Puerto Limon and the rest at Pacific ports.
During the 2019-2020 cruise season, ~240,000 passengers arrived in Costa Rica on a total of 197 ships. Each of those travelers spent ~US$135 per day when in the country.
The 2020-2021 season was canceled due to the crisis.
