Saga UK's new riverboat - Spirit of the Rhine, on Thursday (September 23) departed on her 13-night maiden voyage from Trier Germany and will take in the Moselle valley and Roman wine towns along the way like Bernkastel-Kues, Piesport-Mosel, and Traben-Trarbach (Germany).
Passengers have ample opportunity to taste local grapes as the vineyards bring in the harvest of the region, and will be joined by popular wine expert Oz Clarke on the trip.
With a design inspired by the nature and culture found along the Rhine, vacationers will have access to first-class facilities onboard the vessel, such as a panoramic lounge and bar, a library, fitness area, two restaurants, expansive sun deck with a jacuzzi and alfresco barbecue.
Spirit of the Rhine has a maximum capacity of 190 passengers who are served by a total of 40 crew. The 95 staterooms are spread over 4 passenger decks and the ship’s bespoke design means the ship will be one of the most environmentally friendly and quietest operating on the Rhine.
