On Wednesday, October 20, the 4000-passenger ship Norwegian Encore became the last large cruise liner to dock in Juneau Alaska for 2021.
Until mid-summer 2021, it was still unclear if there were going to be any large ships deployed in Southeast Alaska. The Canadian border was closed in July and the CDC still had cruising restrictions.
However, the season restarted in late July, and downtown Juneau returned to life after a nonexistent 2020 season.
Most passengers were required to be COVID-vaccinated before the voyages.
70+ big and 20+ small ships visited Juneau AK during the shortened season, bringing 123,000+ tourists to town. That is less than 10% of the number of cruisers that came during 2019, the last season before the COVID crisis.
