Princess Cruises achieved a milestone in preparation for the debut of its newest liner, Discovery Princess, via the successful completion of sea trials.
The newbuild set out to sea from the building dock at Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone (Italy). Discovery Princess was put through a series of paces in order to test the steering, propulsion, and navigation equipment.
Following a successful 5 days of trials, Discovery Princess is back in the shipyard for further exterior/interior finishing to prepare for her maiden, 7-day Mexican Riviera voyage sailing roundtrip from Port Los Angeles (California USA) on March 27, 2022.
The 3,660-passenger Discovery Princess cruise ship is the 6th Royal-Class vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet, with fleetmates and sisterships Royal Princess (2013), Regal Princess (2014), Majestic Princess (2017), Sky Princess (2019) and Enchanted Princess (2020). In the same series is also the P&O UK's liner Britannia (2015).
Discovery Princess is among the world's largest cruise liners. The vessel has 19 decks and features an impressive number (16) of bars and restaurants and a luxury spa. Discovery Princess offers unique features to her guests, including a glass-enclosed walkway over the ocean known as the SeaWalk.
As the leading cruise company on the west coast, Discovery Princess will offer a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast cruises from March 27 until April 24, 2022, prior to heading up the Pacific coast to commence a season of 7-day Alaska voyages from Seattle WA.
