Authorities are investigating a suicide aboard an MSC Cruises ship.
The cruise company confirmed that a 15-year-old boy traveling with his family onboard MSC Seashore had taken his own life on Wednesday evening, December 22.
The kid had fallen off a balcony from Deck 16 and had landed onto the promenade on Deck 8.
At ~7.30 pm on Wednesday, the “Man Overboard” alarm had been sounded as MSC Seashore was returning to PortMiami Florida from a 5-night Caribbean cruise with call ports Costa Maya Mexico (Dec 20) and Isla Roatan Honduras (Dec 21).
The Captain advised all passengers to return to their staterooms and to keep clear from public areas.
Ship officials said they had immediately notified authorities while the care team assisted the child’s family onboard.
MSC released the following statement:
“All of us at MSC Cruises are heartbroken. The family remains in our thoughts and prayers. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be discussing any additional details.”
No other details have been made available.
The accident remains under investigation.
