Cunard Line revealed it will bring Shakespeare and new work to the high seas this current year, as it joins forces in a partnership for the RSC-Royal Shakespeare Company to bring world-class theatre to the line's transatlantic stage.
Exclusively available onboard RMS Queen Mary 2, passengers will enjoy tailored theatrical performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company, which creates captivating theatre by Shakespeare and other literary legends (present and past). The performances are to be available for all passengers onboard Cunard's flagship, including a blend of Shakespeare’s love scenes in a new piece, "Boundless as the Sea," by Owen Horsley.
Passengers will also have the chance to see critically acclaimed new work from Royal Shakespeare Company with Miss Littlewood: a musical by Sam Kenyon exploring the life of one of the most playful and radical figures of the theatre, making a transatlantic debut.
For guests interested in learning what it takes to be an RSC actor, the onboard cast will be leading workshops exploring their craft. Passengers will also be able to access ‘Shakespeare Tales’, informal events where the actors perform their personal favourite speeches and sonnets, as well as answer questions from the audience.
In addition, Cunard's QM2 will host the touring exhibition ‘Digital Diorama: An Augmented Journey Through Shakespeare’s Stratford’. Passengers will use devices to experience scenes from Shakespeare’s plays come to life. Some of the most popular RSC productions in recent years including Henry V, Hamlet, The Merry Wives of Windsor and As You Like it will be screened in Cunard’s onboard cinema, Illuminations.
The 3-year partnership will commence on May 29 until August 12, 2022, and then again from September 15 to November 13, 2022, and will offer the bespoke program exclusively to Cunard QM2 passengers throughout these 2 periods. Vacationers will experience either Miss Littlewood or Boundless as the Sea on each featured journey.
