HAL-Holland America’s newest ship, ms Rotterdam, is expected to get the royal treatment at her official naming ceremony in Rotterdam (Netherlands) on May 30, 2022.
Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will serve as the ship’s godmother, carrying on the Dutch royal tradition that started back in the 1920s.
Rotterdam’s 7-day “Rotterdam Naming Celebration” voyage sails roundtrip from Amsterdam (Netherlands), departing on May 29 and also calls at Kristiansand, Stavanger, and Flam (Norway) with scenic cruising in Sognefjord.
When the newbuild arrives at Rotterdam on May 30, a private ceremony is to be held for invited guests that will be broadcast throughout the vessel. During the voyage, guests can enjoy special events exclusive to the christening sailing, including a celebratory Gala Dinner and a chance to participate in the blessing of the ship’s bell, along with commemorative gifts and surprises.
Once the cruise ship departs Rotterdam, guests can spend the remainder of the journey exploring the ports of Kristiansand, Stavanger, the fjords and unique villages of Norway. A highlight is a day of scenic cruising in Sognefjord. Norway's largest and deepest fjord, the “King of the Fjords” is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world lined with lush landscapes and majestic mountains.
Travelers who wish to be a part of the festivities can book Rotterdam’s naming cruise and join in the celebrations.
