Passengers sailing on Princess MedallionClass cruise ships now have a contactless purchasing option eliminating the need for them to carry cash/credit cards into destinations on their voyage.
The premium brand revealed the expansion of MedallionPay, frictionless payment experience letting guests use their Princess Medallion wearable device to play, shop, eat and drink, with a number of merchants in call ports in the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, and Alaska ports of call, and also to include 7% back on shoreside purchases as an onboard credit for the inaugural year.
Previously exclusive to purchases made onboard a Princess MedallionClass cruise ship, MedallionPay expands the convenience and safety of contactless payment into ports, allowing passengers to leave their wallets and smartphones in their stateroom safes and use the Medallion to shop with added security in stores displaying a MedallionPay seal in the storefronts.
MedallionPay is currently available in St Thomas Island USVI (Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands), Cabo San Lucas (Baja California Mexico), Cozumel (Quintana Roo Mexico, Riviera Maya), and Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco, Mexico Riviera), with more merchants and destinations being added in the near future, including an extension into all Alaska ports Princess liners call on.
Among prominent merchants accepting MedallionPay are Diamonds International and Cariloha, along with 65+ other retailers from bars, restaurants, jewelers, and souvenir stores, to excursion operators and museums. MedallionPay is available to all retailers with no setup/monthly fees to register as a MedallionPay merchant and no required long-term contracts. The software is free to use. Merchants pay a transaction fee including all credit card processing fees. They can cancel service at their discretion.
Passengers who make purchases with participating merchants enjoy the security, convenience, and a 7% shipboard credit on purchases. It equates to bigger rewards when vacationers associate their MedallionPay account with a cashback credit card.
No credit card/personal information is stored on the Medallion. The MedallionPay ecosystem exceeds the levels of security used in financial institutions and passports via using the latest methods of abstraction, encryption, and tokenization.
Princess Cruises has offered MedallionPay contactless payment for all onboard purchases on MedallionClass ships since 2017 with the debut of Princess MedallionClass Experience.
