Port Liverpool (England UK) plans to welcome 100+ cruise ship calls in 2022 in its most ambitious season yet.
Of the 100+ calls, 33 will be turnarounds/roundtrips, including 3 from Hurtigruten’s MS Fridtjof Nansen and 30 from Fred Olsen's Borealis.
The outbreak of the global COVID crisis in March 2020 led to the cancellation of voyages worldwide for ~14 months. Despite this, Liverpool's cruising industry mounted a respectable recovery during 2021-H2.
Between May-December 2021, Liverpool’s cruise terminal handled ~100 visits from 12 companies, with ~80,000 passengers either boarding/disembarking/passing through the port city.
Maiden port calls are expected from 10 ships including Celebrity Apex, Norwegian Dawn, and Valiant Lady. The cruise season will get into full swing in March, with a call from Virgin Voyages. It will also feature visits from Queen Victoria in June and Disney Magic in September 2022.
Fred Olsen has chosen Liverpool as its homeport for the flagship Borealis for a 2nd season.
Cruise Liverpool’s 2022 season is due to provide a GBP 15 million (EUR 18 million) boost to the local economy.
