Aasiaat is a port town in western Greenland (Aasiaat Archipelago) located at Disko Bay's southern end. By population (around 3,000) it is Greenland's 5th-largest town. Its name means "Spiders" n Greenlandic. Sometimes, Aasiaat is referred to as "the Town of the Whales", because marine mammals such as seals and whales are a common sight.
Aasiaat is a ferry port for Arctic Umiaq Line (freight and passenger shipping company). Arctic Umiaq serves the south-western Greenland route roundtrip from Nuuk.
