Alderney is the most northerly located of the Channel Islands. It is part of Bailiwick of Guernsey, British Crown dependency. Alderney Island is 5 km (3 miles) long and 2.4 km (1 1⁄2 miles) wide. Its area is 8 km2 (3 sq.miles), making it the 3rd-largest of the Channel Islands, and the 2nd largest in Bailiwick.

Alderney is around 15 km (10 miles) to the west of La Hague on Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy (France), 30 km (20 miles) to the north-east of Guernsey, 100 km (60 miles) from the south coast of Great Britain. Alderney is the closest of Channel Islands to both the United Kingdom and France. It is separated by the dangerous Alderney Race from Cap de la Hague.
