Andernach is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Mayen-Koblenz district), with population around 30,000. It is located on the river's left bank, approx 21 km (13 mi) north of Koblenz. The city is served by Eifelquer Railway (Rhein-Express trains) and Regionalbahn/highway connecting Cologne and Koblenz.

One of Germany's oldest towns, Andernach was founded by the Romans (under the name Antunnacum) in 12 BC. Its economy is based on large-scale industrial manufacturing - steel-mill (producing cold-formed plates), cast iron products, engines and parts, medicinal products, raw food materials. Tourist attractions include Old Town's medieval fortifications, Electorate of Cologne castle ruins, town wall (with restored towers and 2 gates), Alte Krahnen (Old Crane, 16th-century treadwheel crane with stone walls), St Mary Cathedral (aka Mariendom, town's oldest building), Haus von der Leyen (town museum), Geyser Andernach (world's highest cold-water geyser / 64 m - 210 ft / driven by CO2).
