Andros Island (Bahamas) is the country's largest (land area 5957 km2/2300 mi2). For comparison, The Bahamas 700+ islands have a combined land area of 13880 km2/5360 mi2. The island's namesake is in Greece (Andros).

As a cruise destination, Andros Bahamas is visited by smaller-sized, luxury ships and superyachts. The island was first included in the 2025 and 2026 schedules of SeaDream Yacht Club.

Traditionally for The Bahamas, Andros' economy is heavily based on tourism as well as on commercial fishing (conch, lobster, snapper, grouper, also crabs/seasonally) sold at markets in Nassau. The tourism industry benefits from 50+ accommodation properties (resorts, hotels, motels, guest houses, lodges), with ~400 rooms combined. Most tourists are foreigners who enjoy activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, yachting, and deep-sea fishing (tuna, sailfish, dorado, wahoo, jacks, snapper, grouper). Fly fishing for bonefish is very popular for anglers.

Andros Bahamas' land area consists of three main/largest islands (North Andros, Mangrove Cay, South Andros) plus hundreds of smaller isles and cays interconnected by tidal swampland. The Andros Barrier Reef (to the east of North Andros) is the world's sixth longest (length 225 km/140 mi) - the longest being Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

By land area, North Andros (5957 km2/2300 mi2) is the sixth-largest in the West Indies. North Andros has length 167 km/104 mi and width 64 km/40 mi (widest point). Andros Bahamas has population around 8,000, most of whom are settled along the Queen Elizabeth Highway (along the eastern coast). The largest settlement (the island's capital) and principal port is Andros Town (on the east coast) with population around 500.

Andros Town Airport (aka Fresh Creek Airport) serves regularly scheduled domestic flights (by LeAir) linking to Nassau (New Providence Island).

Andros was discovered by the Spaniards who named it "Espiritu Santu" and later "San Andreas". Its current name was given by the British who initially named it "Andrews Island". The island's current name honors Sir Edmund Andros (1637-1714, an English colonial administrator in British America/1607-1783, and the governor of the Dominion of New England in America/1686-89, which consisted of New England and the Mid-Atlantic Colonies). Another version suggests that the island is named after San Andres (Saint Andrew, an apostle of Jesus).
