Bad Wimpfen (Germany Baden-Wurttemberg)

Bad Wimpfen is a Neckar River/Rhine River cruise port and spa town in Germany's Baden-Wurttemberg state (Heilbronn district) with a population of around 7,000. The town is approx 15 km (9 mi) north of Heilbronn (state's 6th-largest city with a population of around 125,000).

The initial settlement was a Celtic village which (named Wimpina) was developed in the 2nd-century BC (during the Roman Empire). It received market town rights in 965 (granted by Holy Roman Emperor Otto I / 912-973). As a spa town, Wimpfen emerged in 1752 when the first bore-holes for brine (salt-water) were drilled. Permanent salt production was established in the early-19th-century. As the brine was also used therapeutically, in 1835 was opened town's first spa hotel (Mathilden). In mid-19th-century, the spa town was expanded and started to develop more after the opening of the Heilbronn-Heidelberg railway.

Among the best-known tourist attractions are Stadtkirche (13th-century church), Dominikanerkirche (18th-century church), Johanneskirche (15th-century church), Cornelienkirche (15th-century church), Burgerspital (13th-century), Burgermeister-Elsasser-Haus (early-18th-century), Nurnberger-Turmchen (mid-17th-century tower).
